Project Timeline

2020: Early Spring

In early Spring 2020, the Parks Foudation began planning a wetlands ecology center in American Canyon. After working with the City of American Canyon to identify a potential site, the Parks Foundation Board approves an effort to develop Ecology Center in American Canyon.

September 2021

In 2021, planning and outreach began. The Parks Foundation met with partners and community groups to better understand community needs. $100,000 in seed funding was raised at An Evening at the Ruins event.

October 2021

City of American Cayon and the Parks Foundation agree to repurpose the site and the Parks Foundation presents to the Council.

February 2022

In 2022, community engagement began and project leaders embark on robust Communtiy Outreach and project planning efforts. Tabling, surveys, and community events gather input from residents on the project.

May 2022

First Conceptual designs were unveiled.

April 2023

San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority approves funding for Community Outreach and Project Development.

May 2023

September 2023

September 2023 – Project Team Submits Entitlement application to City of American Canyon.

Napa River Ecology Center website launched.

February 2024

  • Council approves long-term lease
  • City commits $1,000,000 contribution

April 2024

Congressman Thompson presents check for $800,000

August 2024

Project Team reaches 50% Design Plan milestone
